R2A Agar Plate 90 mm – Ready-to-Use R2A Agar for Water Heterotrophic Plate Count Testing (Pack of 10)

Let us know which dry culture media products you’re interested in, including specifications and quantities. We’ll reply promptly.

R2A Agar is a low-nutrient culture medium widely used in water microbiology for the heterotrophic plate count (total viable count) determination of bacteria in drinking water, process water and other aqueous samples. This ready-to-use prepared agar plate saves preparation time, reduces contamination risk and delivers consistent, batch-controlled performance.

Designed for water microbiology

  • The low-nutrient formulation supports the recovery of slow-growing, stressed aquatic bacteria, giving more representative heterotrophic counts.
  • Suitable for total viable count / heterotrophic plate count testing of water and related samples.

Ready-to-use & reliable

  • Supplied as 90 mm prepared plates, 20–25 mL agar per plate.
  • Pre-sterilized during production; triple-layer vacuum packaging helps protect the medium and reduce contamination, condensation and dehydration.
  • Supports good growth of common test organisms including E. coli, P. aeruginosa, B. subtilis, S. aureus, C. albicans and A. niger.
  • Consistent gel strength (500–650 g/cm²) and controlled pH (7.2 ± 0.2).

Typical composition (per litre)

  • Yeast extract 0.5 g; Peptone 0.5 g; Casein hydrolysate 0.5 g; Glucose 0.5 g; Soluble starch 0.5 g; Dipotassium hydrogen phosphate 0.3 g; Anhydrous magnesium sulfate 0.024 g; Sodium pyruvate 0.3 g; Agar 15.0 g; Distilled water 1000 mL; final pH 7.2 ± 0.2 (25 °C).

Storage & shelf life

  • Store at 2–25 °C, protected from light.
  • Shelf life: 180 days from production.

How to use

  1. Remove the plate from storage and allow it to equilibrate to room temperature.
  2. Transport the whole pack to the test site.
  3. Inoculate and incubate inverted at the specified temperature and time.
  4. Observe and count colonies.

Quality indicators

  • Appearance: light yellow, smooth, no cracks, no visible impurities or bubbles.
  • pH qualified; gel strength 500–650 g/cm².
  • Sterility: no growth after 3 days at 20–25 °C or 2 days at 30–35 °C; no obvious dehydration.
  • Growth: E. coli, P. aeruginosa, B. subtilis, S. aureus, C. albicans and A. niger – typical colony size and characteristics.

Note

  • For laboratory/professional microbiological use only. Single-use product; autoclave before disposal.
  • Do not use plates that are cracked, dry or contaminated.
  • Re-seal any unused plates and return to appropriate storage promptly.

Packaging

  • 90 mm × 10 plates per pack, triple-layer vacuum packaging
