Selective & differential design
- Bile salts No. 3 suppress Gram-positive and non-enteric flora, allowing enteric bacteria to grow.
- Lactose, sucrose and salicin, combined with bromothymol blue and acid fuchsin, produce clear colony colour differences.
- Salmonella typically appears as green or blue-green colonies with black centers (H2S); Shigella appears as green colonies.
Ready-to-use & reliable
- Supplied as 90 mm prepared plates, 20–25 mL agar per plate.
- Gamma-irradiated, triple-layer sterile sealed packaging helps protect the medium and reduce contamination, condensation and dehydration.
- Consistent, controlled pH (7.5 ± 0.2) and gel strength for reproducible results.
Typical composition (per litre)
- Peptone 12.0 g; Beef extract 3.0 g; Lactose 12.0 g; Sucrose 12.0 g; Salicin 2.0 g; Bile salts No. 3 9.0 g; Sodium chloride 5.0 g; Agar 14.0 g; Bromothymol blue 0.065 g; Sodium thiosulfate 5.0 g; Ferric ammonium citrate 1.5 g; Acid fuchsin 0.1 g; Purified water 1000 mL; final pH 7.5 ± 0.2.
