Sabouraud Medium with TTC for Fungal Isolation and Enumeration

This Sabouraud Medium with TTC is a selective formulation designed for the cultivation, isolation, and enumeration of fungi and yeasts. It combines the classic Sabouraud formula, ideal for fungal growth, with the addition of TTC (Triphenyl Tetrazolium Chloride), which acts as a vital dye to facilitate colony differentiation and counting.

The reduced pH favors fungal development while inhibiting many contaminating bacteria, making it a reliable choice for quantitative analysis in clinical, food, and pharmaceutical laboratories.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Enhanced Differentiation: The inclusion of TTC is reduced to red formazan by metabolically active microorganisms, staining fungal colonies red or pink. This significantly aids in visualizing and distinguishing colonies from media debris, improving counting accuracy.
  • Classic Fungal Formulation: Based on the standard Sabouraud Dextrose Agar composition with a low pH of 5.6, optimal for dermatophytes, yeasts, and other fungi.
  • Quantitative Analysis: Specifically suitable for the enumeration of fungi in quality control and environmental monitoring.
  • Flexible Supplementation: Formulation allows for the optional addition of antibiotics (e.g., chloramphenicol) for enhanced bacterial inhibition.
