Mueller-Hinton (MH) Agar is a non-selective culture medium widely used in laboratory microbiology for bacterial antimicrobial susceptibility testing by the disk diffusion (Kirby-Bauer) method. This ready-to-use prepared agar plate saves preparation time, reduces contamination risk and delivers consistent, batch-controlled performance.

Standardized for susceptibility testing

  • The balanced formulation supports clear, well-defined zones of inhibition around antimicrobial disks.
  • Consistent agar depth and gel strength (500–650 g/cm²) help produce reproducible zone measurements.

Ready-to-use & reliable

  • Supplied as 90 mm prepared plates, 20–25 mL agar per plate.
  • Pre-sterilized, triple-layer sterile packaging helps protect the medium and reduce contamination, condensation and dehydration.
  • Supports good growth of common quality-control organisms including Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
  • Controlled pH (7.0–7.4) and sterility-tested.

Typical composition (per litre)

  • Animal tissue enzymatic digest 6.0 g; Casein enzymatic digest 17.5 g; Soluble starch 1.5 g; Agar 13.0 g; Purified water 1000 mL; final pH 7.2 ± 0.2 (25 °C).

Storage & shelf life

  • Store upright at 2–8 °C, protected from light.
  • Avoid temperature swings over 10 °C, which can cause condensation.
  • Shelf life: 3 months (90 days) from production.

How to use

  1. Remove the plate from cold storage and allow it to equilibrate to room temperature (place upright 4–6 hours before use to reduce surface moisture).
  2. Transport the whole pack to the test site.
  3. Inoculate and incubate inverted at the specified temperature and time.
  4. Observe and measure zones of inhibition.

Quality indicators

  • Appearance: light yellow, smooth, no cracks, no visible impurities or bubbles.
  • pH 7.0–7.4; gel strength 500–650 g/cm².
  • Sterility: no growth after incubation for 2 days.
  • Growth: E. coli, S. aureus and P. aeruginosa – good growth.

Note

  • For laboratory/professional microbiological use only. Single-use product; autoclave before disposal.
  • Do not use plates that are cracked, dry or contaminated.
  • Minor moisture inside the pack does not affect normal use; excess moisture can be removed under sterile conditions.

Packaging

  • 90 mm × 10 plates per pack, triple-layer sterile packaging
