VRE Broth Base is a selective enrichment medium formulated for the isolation of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) and high-level aminoglycoside-resistant enterococci (HLARE) from clinical and environmental samples. Supplementation with 2 mg/L meropenem enhances selectivity by inhibiting non-target bacteria.

Composition (per liter):

  • Calf brain infusion solids …………….. 12.5 g

  • Beef heart infusion solids …………….. 5.0 g

  • Proteose Peptone …………………….. 10.0 g

  • Glucose ……………………………… 2.0 g

  • Sodium Chloride ………………………. 5.0 g

  • Disodium Phosphate …………………… 2.5 g

  • Final pH: 7.1 ± 0.2 at 25℃

Preparation Instructions:

  1. Suspend 38.0 g of VRE Broth Base in 1 liter of distilled or deionized water.

  2. Heat with frequent agitation until completely dissolved.

  3. Dispense into suitable containers.

  4. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121℃ for 15 minutes.

  5. Cool to about 50℃.

  6. Under aseptic conditions, add 2 mg sterile meropenem per liter.

  7. Mix thoroughly and store until use.

Storage:

  • Store at room temperature in a dry place.

  • Shelf life: 3 years.
