Overview
Soya Flour Agar is a high-quality culture medium formulated for the preparation of blood agar plates. It is used in microbiology laboratories for the cultivation of a variety of microorganisms, particularly in applications where the addition of sterile defibrinated sheep blood is required. This medium provides an optimal nutrient base to support microbial growth when supplemented with blood.
Composition (per liter)
Heart Pancreatic Digest: 15.0 g
Sodium Chloride: 5.0 g
Pea Extract: 3.0 g
Agar: 20.0 g
pH: 7.5 ± 0.1 (at 25°C)
Preparation Instructions
Weigh 4.3 g of Soya Flour Agar powder and add to 100 ml of distilled or deionized water.
Heat to boiling until fully dissolved.
Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.
Cool to 50°C.
Under aseptic conditions, add 5–10 ml of sterile defibrinated sheep blood.
Mix gently and pour plates for immediate use.
