Product Application:
Shigella Chromogenic Medium is designed for the selective isolation and identification of Shigella species. It provides distinct colony color differentiation, enabling reliable detection and reducing interference from other bacteria.

Medium Formula (per liter):

  • Mixed peptone – 30.0 g

  • Nutrients – 40.0 g

  • Chromogenic substances – 0.6 g

  • Agar – 15.0 g

  • pH 7.3 ± 0.1 (25℃)

Instructions for Use:

  1. Weigh 8.56 g of the medium and dissolve in 100 ml of distilled or deionized water.

  2. Heat to boiling for 1 minute until fully dissolved.

  3. Cool to approx. 50℃, pour into plates, and allow to solidify.

Colony Characteristics:

  • Shigella: White or colorless colonies, some Shigella sonnei show blue centers

  • Coliforms: Green or yellow colonies

  • Salmonella: Yellow or colorless colonies, often with black centers

  • Other bacteria: Blue-green or yellow colonies

  • Proteus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa: Minimal growth

  • Staphylococcus: Growth inhibited
