Key Features
- Ready-to-use sterile contact plate: autoclaved, aseptically filled and gamma-irradiated for consistent sterility.
- Penicillinase (1,000,000 IU/L): inactivates residual penicillin in samples, helping to prevent false-negative counts during surface monitoring in antibiotic-manufacturing and clean environments.
- Broad growth support for common environmental indicator organisms.
- Flat, crack-free, pale-yellow agar surface, raised to an appropriate height above the plate rim for reliable contact sampling.
- Convenient 65 mm size, 15–20 mL fill; 10 plates per pack in triple-layer vacuum packaging for cleanroom transfer.
Composition (per 1000 mL)
- Tryptone (pancreatic digest of casein): 15 g
- Soya peptone (papain digest of soybean): 5 g
- Sodium chloride: 5 g
- Agar: 15 g
- Penicillinase: 1,000,000 IU
- Distilled water: 1000 mL
- Final pH: 7.3 ± 0.2 at 25 °C
Intended Use
For determining surface microbial load on equipment, workshop/work areas, personnel and packaging materials in cleanrooms and controlled manufacturing environments. This is an environmental monitoring medium for laboratory use only. It is not a medical device and is not intended for diagnosis or treatment of disease.
Performance
- Appearance: pale yellow; agar raised slightly above the rim; smooth surface; free from cracks, visible impurities and air bubbles.
- Physical & chemical: pH within specification; gel strength 500–650 g/cm².
- Sterility & moisture retention: no bacterial growth after 5 days at 30–35 °C; no significant dehydration.
- Growth promotion: supports good growth with typical colony morphology for Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis and Enterococcus faecalis (50–100 CFU).
How to Use
- Remove the contact plate from refrigerated storage and allow it to reach room temperature.
- Bring the intact package into the sampling area, gradually removing the outer two layers; open the final vacuum layer inside the operating room.
- Open the lid and press the medium firmly onto the surface to be sampled; if needed, press gently on the centre of the base for about 10 seconds, lift slowly, and replace the lid from one side.
- Mark the frosted area with sampling location, time and sampler.
- Wipe the tested area with a disinfectant or sporicide to remove medium residue.
- Remove the plate from the cleanroom and incubate inverted at the specified temperature and time.
- Observe and count colonies.
Storage & Shelf Life
Store at 2–8 °C, protected from light. Shelf life: 60 days from date of manufacture. Do not use if the plate is cracked, dried out or contaminated.
Packaging
65 mm contact plate, 15–20 mL fill, 10 plates per pack; triple-layer vacuum packaging.
Safety & Disposal
Single-use product. Autoclave before disposal. Handle as laboratory material in accordance with your facility’s biosafety procedures.
