Selective Culture Medium for Isolation of Burkholderia cepacia

Pseudomonas Cepacia Agar Base, also known as Burkholderia cepacia Agar Base, is a microbiological culture medium designed for the selective isolation of Burkholderia cepacia from environmental, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic samples.

This medium supports the growth of the target microorganism while selective supplements help inhibit competing bacteria. It is widely used in microbiology laboratories, pharmaceutical microbiology testing, cosmetic quality control laboratories, and environmental monitoring laboratories.

Preparation Instructions

  1. Weigh 36.5 g of the medium powder.
  2. Dissolve in 1000 mL distilled or deionized water.
  3. Heat and boil until the medium is completely dissolved.
  4. Dispense into suitable containers.
  5. Sterilize at 121°C for 15 minutes.
  6. After sterilization, mix well and cool to 50–55°C.
  7. Under aseptic conditions, add the following supplements to each 100 mL of medium:
  • Polymyxin B solution
  • Hydroxythiazolyl penicillin solution
  • Gentamicin solution
  1. Mix gently and pour into sterile Petri dishes.
