Postgate’s Medium D for Sulfate Reducers 250g Culture Medium

Postgate’s Medium D is a culture medium designed for the cultivation of sulfate-reducing microorganisms under sulfate-free conditions. This dehydrated powder medium is suitable for laboratory preparation and cultivation of specialized desulfurizing microbes.

Composition (per liter):

• Sodium pyruvate: 3.5 g

• MgCl₂·6H₂O: 1.6 g

• NH₄Cl: 1.0 g

• Yeast extract: 1.0 g

• KH₂PO₄: 0.5 g

• CaCl₂·2H₂O: 0.1 g

• FeSO₄·7H₂O: 0.004 g

• Final pH: 7.5 ± 0.2 (25°C)

Preparation Instructions:
Dissolve 7.7 g of the medium in 1 liter of deionized water. For cultivation of marine microorganisms, add sodium chloride as needed or use seawater instead of deionized water, adjusting the pH to 7.5. Boil until dissolved, dispense into suitable containers, and sterilize at 121°C for 15 minutes. Cool before use. A small amount of insoluble matter may remain after sterilization.
