Peptone Tryptone Yeast Extract Glucose Medium (PTYG Medium, LMG Medium 238)
Peptone Tryptone Yeast Extract Glucose Medium (PTYG), also known as LMG Medium 238, is a general-purpose nutrient-rich culture medium. It supports the cultivation of Cytophaga, Sphingobacterium, Sphingomonas, and various other bacteria that require peptone, yeast extract, and glucose for optimal growth.
The medium combines peptone and tryptone as sources of organic nitrogen and peptides, yeast extract for vitamins and growth factors, and glucose as a fermentable carbohydrate energy source. Solidified with agar, PTYG medium provides a stable environment suitable for a wide range of microbial growth studies.
Applications:
Cultivation of Cytophaga spp.
Cultivation of Sphingobacterium spp.
Cultivation of Sphingomonas spp.
General microbiological research and bacterial isolation
Suitable for environmental and soil microbiology
