L-Lysine HCl, also known as (S)-2,6-Diaminohexanoic acid monohydrochloride, with CAS number 657-27-2 and molecular formula C6H14N2O2•HCl (molecular weight 182.65).​

Properties: White to off-white crystalline powder, almost odorless. Melts and decomposes at 263-264°C. Stable under normal conditions but tends to clump under high humidity and may discolor slightly. Stable at relative humidity below 60%; forms a dihydrate above 60%. Discolors when mixed with vitamin C and vitamin K3. Decomposes under alkaline conditions or when heated directly with reducing sugars. Soluble in water (40g/100ml at 35°C), with aqueous solutions neutral to slightly acidic. Racemizes when heated with phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, or ion exchange resins.​
