
King’s B Medium – Culture Medium for Fluorescent Pigment Detection in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 250g
King’s B Medium is a selective culture medium formulated for the detection of fluorescent pigment production in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. With an optimized nutrient balance, it promotes pyoverdine synthesis and aids in the identification and differentiation of Pseudomonas species in microbiology and clinical laboratories.
Complete Formula (per liter):
Peptone: 20.0 g
Dipotassium Phosphate (K2HPO4): 1.5 g
Magnesium Sulfate·7H2O (MgSO4·7H2O): 1.5 g
Agar: 15.0 g
Final pH: 7.2 ± 0.2 (25°C)
Preparation & Instructions:
Weigh 38.0 g of medium.
Suspend in 1 liter distilled or deionized water (adjust proportionally for smaller volumes).
Add 1 ml glycerol per 100 ml medium.
Heat until completely dissolved and distribute into tubes or flasks.
Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.
Mix well, slant tubes, allow to solidify, and store for use.
Notes:
Slight inorganic salt precipitation may occur; this does not affect performance.
