Granada Medium (GM) is a nutrient-rich selective medium specifically formulated for the cultivation of Group B Streptococcus (GBS). Supplied in 500g bottles, it must be stored under refrigeration and has a shelf life of 3 years, making it suitable for microbiology laboratories focusing on accurate bacterial isolation.

Key Ingredients (per liter):

  • Soluble Starch (150.0g): Provides an energy source and supports bacterial growth.

  • Proteose Peptone No.3 (38.0g): Supplies peptides and amino acids for optimal growth.

  • Sodium Chloride (3.0g): Maintains osmotic balance in the medium.

  • Trimethoprim Lactate (0.015g): Selective agent to inhibit unwanted bacterial growth.

  • Sodium Phosphate Buffer (0.06M, 7.7g, pH 7.4): Maintains pH stability.

pH: 7.4 ± 0.2 at 25°C

Usage Instructions:
Dissolve 19.87g of Granada Medium base in 90ml of distilled or deionized water. Heat in a water bath for 20–30 minutes while stirring until fully dissolved. Cool to 90–95°C, then aseptically add 10ml of horse serum per 90ml medium and mix thoroughly. Cool to 60–65°C and pour into sterile plates. Allow plates to solidify for 2–3 hours before use.
