Eubacterium Selective Agar (ESA) is a specialized medium used for the selective isolation of Eubacterium species. It is formulated with essential nutrients and selective agents that support the growth of Eubacterium while inhibiting unwanted microorganisms. This medium is commonly used in clinical microbiology, environmental studies, and bacteriology for the cultivation and isolation of Eubacterium strains.

Instructions for Use:

  1. Dissolve 4.06g of Eubacterium Selective Agar in 95ml of distilled or deionized water.

  2. Heat and boil until completely dissolved.

  3. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.

  4. Allow to cool to 50-55°C.

  5. Add the following supplements:

    • 1 vial each of Streptomycin Sulfate Solution, Polymyxin B Sulfate Solution, and Bacitracin Sulfate Solution.

    • 5ml of Sterile Defibrinated Horse Blood.

  6. Gently mix, pour into Petri dishes, and allow to solidify.

Ingredients per 1 L:

  • Proteose Peptone No.3: 10.0g

  • Yeast Extract: 5.0g

  • Na2HPO4: 4.0g

  • Soluble Starch: 0.5g

  • Dextrose: 1.5g

  • L-Cystine: 0.2g

  • L-Cysteine HCl: 0.5g

  • Lab-Lemco Powder: 2.4g

  • Sodium Propionate: 1.5g

  • Agar: 15.0g

pH: 7.3 ± 0.2 at 25°C
