Application
E. coli–Coliforms Chromogenic Medium is designed for the selective isolation and differentiation of Escherichia coli and total coliforms from environmental, food, and water samples. Chromogenic substrates allow visual identification based on colony color.
Composition (per liter)
Nutrients – 28.0 g
SDS – 0.1 g
Chromogenic indicators – 2.9 g
Agar – 15.0 g
pH: 7.0 ± 0.2 (25℃)
Instructions for Use
Weigh 4.6 g of the powder and dissolve in 100 ml of distilled or deionized water.
Heat to boiling for 1 minute to fully dissolve.
Cool to 50℃ and pour into plates.
Use plates immediately or store at 2–8℃ until use.
Typical Colony Characteristics
E. coli colonies: blue, blue-green, or blue-purple.
Other coliforms: pink to reddish-orange.
Other bacteria: yellow or colorless.
Individual E. coli strains may appear violet.
