Product Overview
This Columbia Agar Plate is a ready-to-use, general-purpose microbiological medium designed for the isolation and cultivation of Clostridium species and other fastidious microorganisms. Columbia Agar Base is widely recognized as one of the most nutritious general-purpose media available, supporting the growth of a broad range of bacteria, including anaerobic and aerobic organisms.
The medium combines multiple peptone sources — pancreatic digest of casein, peptic digest of animal tissue, yeast extract, heart pancreatic digest, and corn starch — to provide a rich supply of nutrients, vitamins, and growth factors. The corn starch acts as a protective agent and supports the growth of fastidious organisms. This formulation is particularly suitable for anaerobic culture and is commonly used as a base for blood-supplemented media.
The 90mm format is suitable for streaking, swabbing, and general inoculation procedures, and the triple sterile packaging allows safe transfer into controlled environments.
