Charcoal Agar (Regan-Lowe Charcoal Agar) – 250g
Charcoal Agar (Regan-Lowe Charcoal Agar Medium) is designed for the selective cultivation of aerobic bacteria, particularly Bordetella pertussis (whooping cough). This medium is charcoal-enriched and free from nicotinic acid to promote the growth of specific bacteria in clinical and research applications. It’s ideal for isolating Bordetella pertussis and other aerobic pathogens.
Key Features:
Ideal for Bordetella pertussis and aerobic pathogens cultivation.
Contains charcoal to absorb toxic substances, enhancing bacterial growth.
Free from nicotinic acid to favor the growth of Bordetella pertussis.
Selective components: Add Cefalexin solution and sterile defibrinated sheep blood for increased selectivity.
Shelf life: 3 years at room temperature.
Instructions for Use:
Dissolve 62.5g of Charcoal Agar in 1L of distilled or deionized water.
Heat and dissolve completely.
Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes or 115°C for 30 minutes.
After sterilization, gently shake the medium to prevent agar from settling.
If needed, cool to 50°C, then add 1 vial of Cefalexin solution (100mg) and 10ml sterile defibrinated sheep blood per 100ml medium.
Gently mix and pour onto plates.
Storage: Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. Shelf life: 3 years.
