Chalmers Agar / Modified MC Medium – 250g per Bottle

The MC Medium (Chalmers Agar) and its modified version are high-quality agar media formulated for the enumeration of thermophilic Streptococci, suitable for dairy microbiology, fermentation studies, and laboratory bacterial assays. The modified version includes polymyxin B for selective inhibition of unwanted bacteria.

Composition (per liter):

• Enzymatic Digest of Soybean Meal – 5.0 g

• Beef Extract – 3.0 g

• Yeast Extract – 3.0 g

• Neutral Red – 0.05 g

• Calcium Carbonate – 10.0 g

• Lactose – 20.0 g

• Dextrose – 20.0 g

• Agar – 15.0 g

• pH: 6.0 ± 0.2 (25℃)

Preparation Instructions:

1. Dissolve 76 g of the medium in 1L distilled or deionized water.

2. Heat gently to boiling until fully dissolved.

3. Dispense into suitable containers.

4. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121℃ for 15 minutes.

5. Shake well after sterilization to prevent calcium carbonate settling at the bottom.

6. For Modified MC Medium: Cool to 55℃, add 1 unit of 10,000 U Polymyxin B per 100 mL, mix thoroughly, and pour into plates.
