Brilliant Green Phenol Red Agar (BGPA) is a selective and differential culture medium formulated for the isolation of Salmonella species from clinical, food, and environmental specimens. The medium contains brilliant green dye, which selectively inhibits Gram-positive bacteria and many Gram-negative organisms, while phenol red serves as a pH indicator to detect carbohydrate fermentation.

Preparation Instructions
Suspend 54.7 g of the medium powder in 1 liter of distilled or deionized water.
Heat with frequent agitation until completely dissolved.
Dispense into suitable containers.
Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes (or at 115°C for 30 minutes).
Mix thoroughly after sterilization to avoid agar sedimentation.
Allow to solidify before use.
