Product Description

Baird-Parker Agar Medium Base is a dehydrated selective culture medium designed for the detection, isolation, and enumeration of Staphylococcus aureus in microbiological testing.

The formulation is based on a nutrient-rich agar base combined with selective agents and requires supplementation with egg yolk tellurite enrichment prior to plate preparation. After supplementation, the medium supports clear colony differentiation and reliable performance in routine microbiological analysis.

This agar base is supplied as a dry powder, allowing laboratories flexibility in preparation, storage, and batch size adjustment.

Medium Composition

Composition per liter:

  • Tryptone — 10.0 g
  • Beef Extract — 5.0 g
  • Yeast Extract — 1.0 g
  • Sodium Pyruvate — 10.0 g
  • Glycine — 12.0 g
  • Lithium Chloride — 5.0 g
  • Agar — 20.0 g

Preparation Instructions

  1. Suspend 6.3 g of the medium in 95 ml of distilled or deionized water.
  2. Heat to boiling until completely dissolved.
  3. Adjust volume to final level if required.
  4. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.
  5. Mix well immediately after sterilization to prevent agar settling.
  6. Cool to approximately 50°C.
  7. Aseptically add 1 vial of egg yolk tellurite enrichment.
  8. Mix gently and pour plates.
