Product Overview

Antibiotic Medium No. 8 is a dehydrated solid agar culture medium developed for the microbiological determination of antibiotic potency, specifically for vancomycin potency assays.
This medium is suitable for agar diffusion–based methods where antibiotic activity is evaluated by measuring inhibition zone diameters.

The formulation is referenced to USP guidelines and supplied as a powder, ensuring consistent performance, convenient preparation, and long-term stability for routine microbiology laboratory use.

Test Principle

This method is based on the diffusion of antibiotics within an agar medium.
The diameter of the inhibition zone is related to the concentration or biological activity of the antibiotic.
By comparing the inhibition zones produced by a reference standard and a test sample against an inoculated test microorganism, the potency of the test sample can be determined.
