1% Tween 80-Corn Meal Agar Base for Candida Albicans Germ Tube Test

This Corn Meal Agar Base with Tween 80 is a specialized medium specifically formulated for the identification of Candida albicans through the germ tube test. It is an essential tool for rapid, presumptive identification in clinical mycology laboratories.

The natural corn extract provides the nutritional stimulus necessary for chlamydospore and germ tube formation. The addition of Tween 80 (Polysorbate 80) acts as a surfactant, reducing surface tension and enhancing the visualization of characteristic morphological structures like germ tubes and chlamydospores under microscopy.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Rapid Identification: Specifically designed to induce and detect germ tube formation in Candida albicans within 2-4 hours.
  • Enhanced Morphology: Tween 80 stimulates the development of characteristic structures (chlamydospores, pseudohyphae) for definitive microscopic identification.
  • Specialized Formulation: Low-nutrient base encourages fungi to sporulate and form diagnostic structures rather than just vegetative growth.
  • Easy Preparation: Simple base requires only the addition of Tween 80 before sterilization.
