YPD Agar for Yeast Propagation and Molecular Biology Applications

This YPD Agar (Yeast Extract-Peptone-Dextrose Agar) is a complete, nutrient-rich medium specifically formulated for the cultivation, propagation, and maintenance of yeast strains, particularly Saccharomyces cerevisiae and other species commonly used in molecular biology and genetic research.

YPD is the standard, non-selective rich medium for yeast work. The combination of peptone and yeast extract provides a comprehensive source of amino acids, vitamins, and nitrogen, while the high glucose concentration serves as the primary fermentable carbon source. This formulation ensures robust growth and optimal viability for cloning, protein expression, and strain maintenance.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Standard Yeast Medium: The most widely used rich medium for general yeast culture in research laboratories.
  • Optimized for Molecular Biology: Supports healthy growth of yeast strains used in transformation, plasmid maintenance, and gene expression studies.
  • Rich Formulation: Balanced mixture of peptone and yeast extract provides essential growth factors for vigorous yeast propagation.
  • Versatile Use: Ideal for routine subculturing, short-term storage on slants, and as a base for selective media when supplemented.
