Blood Agar Base for Microbiological Culture
Blood Agar Base is a dehydrated culture medium designed for the preparation of blood agar plates by supplementation with sterile defibrinated sheep blood.

🧾 Medium Composition (per liter)
Meat Extract – 10.0 g
Peptone – 10.0 g
Sodium Chloride – 5.0 g
Agar – 15.0 g
Final pH: 7.4 ± 0.2 (25 °C)
⚙️ Directions for Use
Suspend 40.0 g of the medium in 1 L of distilled or deionized water.
Heat with agitation and boil until completely dissolved.
Dispense as required and sterilize by autoclaving at 121 °C for 15 minutes.
Mix well after sterilization to prevent agar sedimentation.
Cool the medium to 50–55 °C.
Under aseptic conditions, slowly add 10% sterile defibrinated sheep blood pre-warmed to 35 °C along the container wall.
Gently mix, pour into sterile Petri dishes, allow to solidify, and store appropriately.
