Soya Flour Agar is a dehydrated agar medium base designed for the preparation of blood agar plates.
After sterilization, sterile defibrinated sheep blood is aseptically added to obtain blood agar suitable for routine microbiological cultivation and observation of hemolytic reactions.

The medium provides a stable and consistent agar base with good gel strength and clarity after preparation. It is supplied as a free-flowing powder, ensuring ease of handling, reproducibility, and long shelf life.

🧾 Medium Composition (per liter)

  • Heart Pancreatic Digest – 15.0 g

  • Sodium Chloride – 5.0 g

  • Pea Extract – 3.0 g

  • Agar – 20.0 g

Final pH: 7.5 ± 0.1 (25 °C)


⚙️ Directions for Use

  1. Suspend 4.3 g of the medium in 100 mL of distilled or deionized water.

  2. Heat to boiling with agitation until completely dissolved.

  3. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121 °C for 15 minutes.

  4. Cool the medium to approximately 50 °C.

  5. Under aseptic conditions, add 5–10 mL of sterile defibrinated sheep blood per 100 mL medium.

  6. Mix gently and pour into sterile Petri dishes.
