CFAT Agar Base (Cadmium Sulfate Fluoride Acridine Trypticase Agar Base; also known as Cadmium Fluoride Acriflavin Tellurite Agar Base) is a specialized microbiological medium used for the selective isolation and cultivation of Nocardia and Actinomyces species. It is widely applied in microbial research for accurate identification of filamentous bacteria.

Medium Information:

  • Form: Dehydrated culture medium powder

  • Packaging: 250g per bottle

  • Shelf Life: 3 years (store at room temperature)

Preparation Instructions:

  1. Dissolve 50.0g of the medium in 980ml of distilled or deionized water.

  2. Add:

    • Acriflavin solution (0.12mg) – 10 vials

    • Alkaline fuchsin solution – 10 vials

  3. Heat to boiling for at least 1 minute until completely dissolved.

  4. Dispense as required and sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.

  5. After sterilization, shake gently, pour into plates, and allow to solidify.

  6. Optionally, supplement with 5% sterile defibrinated sheep blood for specific applications.

This medium provides a selective environment suitable for Nocardia and Actinomyces, ensuring reliable microbial growth for laboratory studies.
