
Charcoal Cefalexin Blood Agar Base – 250g for Selective Isolation of Bordetella Species
Charcoal Cefalexin Blood Agar Base is a specialized culture medium designed for the selective isolation of Bordetella pertussis (whooping cough bacteria) and Bordetella parapertussis. This medium contains essential nutrients, charcoal for protection, and Cefalexin solution for selective growth. It is suitable for research and clinical applications in identifying these bacteria, particularly in respiratory infections.
Ingredients Per Liter:
Beef Heart Extract: 12.0g
Peptone: 10.0g
Sodium Chloride: 5.0g
Soluble Starch: 10.0g
Yeast Extract: 3.5g
Charcoal (Bacteriological): 4.0g
Nicotinic Acid (Niacin): 0.001g
Agar: 18.0g
pH: 7.3 ± 0.2 (at 25°C)
Instructions for Use:
Dissolve 62.5g of Charcoal Cefalexin Blood Agar Base in 1L of distilled or deionized water.
Heat the mixture until fully dissolved.
Autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes or 115°C for 30 minutes.
After sterilization, gently shake to prevent agar from settling at the bottom of the container.
Cool to 50°C and, under sterile conditions, add 1 vial (per 100ml) of Cefalexin Solution and 10ml of sterile defibrinated sheep blood.
Mix gently and pour into sterile petri dishes.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry place, and keep the lid tightly closed to prevent contamination.
