DTA Medium, also known as Dextrose Tryptone Agar (DTA), is a selective microbiological medium used for the determination of thermophilic aerobic spore counts in milk and dairy products. It provides a reliable agar-based formulation for quality control and microbiological testing in food safety laboratories.

Medium Composition (per liter):

  • Tryptone 10.0g

  • Dextrose 5.0g

  • Bromcresol Purple 0.04g

  • Agar 15.0g

Preparation Instructions:

  1. Dissolve 30.0g of the medium in 1L of distilled or deionized water.

  2. Heat to boiling until completely dissolved.

  3. Dispense into suitable containers.

  4. Sterilize by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes.

  5. Shake well after sterilization to prevent agar sedimentation at the bottom of containers.
